More Than a Mogul: Dr. Gwennetta Wright on Legacy, Leadership, and Faith
Jul 21

When it comes to building legacy, leadership, and lasting impact, few do it with the grace, grit, and purpose of Dr. Gwennetta Wright. With over two decades of experience in the tax and business industry, she’s not only the force behind multi-million dollar companies like Xpert Tax Service and Xpert Business Solution—but also a mentor, media personality, philanthropist, and fierce advocate for her community.
From empowering aspiring entrepreneurs to hosting workshops for youth and giving back to over 25,000 families, Dr. Wright has made service a cornerstone of her success. In this exclusive PVM Magazine interview, she opens up about the passion behind her empire, the power of faith, and what it truly means to walk in purpose.
1. Dr. Gwennetta, you’ve built a powerful legacy in business and tax education. Can you take us back to the moment you realized entrepreneurship was your calling?
I realized entrepreneurship was for me when I got tired of asking for permission to live the life I wanted. I didn’t grow up with a lot, so I always dreamed big. When I started helping people with their taxes and saw that I could make money doing something I was good at — and help others at the same time — I knew I had found my lane. I didn’t have a backup plan. I bet on myself, and I haven’t looked back since.
2. As a Tax Coach who’s helped so many builds successful, compliant firms, what's one foundational principle you believe every tax professional should follow?
Put everything in writing. I always say, "If it isn’t documented, it didn’t happen." The IRS doesn’t go off memory — they go off receipts, notes, and proof. When you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.
3. Between managing Xpert Tax Service, Xpert Business Solution, your fashion line, media ventures, and nonprofit work, how do you stay grounded and balanced?
God and systems. That’s it. I start every day in prayer and keep routines and workflows that help me stay organized. I also don’t try to do it all alone anymore — I’ve built teams, and I delegate. Most importantly, I give myself grace. I don’t chase balance — I prioritize what matters most in each season.
4. Your media platforms, Gwen’s Business Corner and That’s My Bestie, highlight both your business expertise and your personal side. What inspired you to create space for both?
I got tired of feeling like I had to separate from who I am. I’m a business boss and I’m a woman. I wanted to create platforms that show all sides of me — the expert and the woman who’s still growing. Women need to see that you don’t have to shrink to succeed. You can be powerful and personal.
5. Pretty Boss Fashions feels like such an empowering extension of your brand. What does fashion mean to you as a businesswoman and creative?
Fashion is confidence you can wear. When I dress up, I show up different — bolder, stronger, more ready to lead. Pretty Boss is about reminding women that they can be feminine and powerful at the same time. I believe you should always dress like the life you’re praying for.
6. Your community impact is impressive. Over 25,000 families were supported during the holidays, and thousands of students were reached. What fuels that level of service?
I serve because I remember needing help. I never want to be so successful that I forget where I came from. Giving is how I say thank you to God. It’s also how I build legacy. When people think of me, I don’t just want them to think about what I earned — I want them to remember what I gave.
7. Reach 4 Your Dreamz Inc. is doing meaningful work in education and empowerment. What inspired its creation, and how do you see it growing in the years ahead?
I started it because I wanted to be the adult I wished I had when I was growing up. I wanted kids and young adults to know that their dreams are real and possible. In the future, I see Reach 4 Your Dreamz having its own center, scholarships, and national programs. We’re just getting started.
8. You've made significant financial contributions to community initiatives. Why is investing back into your community just as important to you as building your businesses?
Because I can’t call myself successful if the people around me are still struggling. I believe God blesses us so we can be a blessing. Money comes and goes, but impact stays. If I can help one person feel seen, supported, or inspired, then that’s bigger than any paycheck.
9. As someone who continues to thrive beyond 40, what would you say to women who feel like it’s “too late” to start or scale their dreams?
It’s never too late. The only thing that is too late is not trying. I’ve reinvented myself more than once. Your age is not a stop sign — it’s a story. You’re wiser, stronger, and more prepared now than you’ve ever been.
10. With all that you've accomplished, what’s something you’re currently working on that you're excited to share?
Right now, I’m focused on helping more tax professionals build IRS-compliant, profitable businesses. I’m launching more training, resources, and even AI tools to help them win. But honestly, what I’m most excited about is my 20-year business anniversary. We’re planning something BIG — because I believe in celebrating how far God has brought me.
