Beyond the Blues: Christopher King is Tuning Up a New Vision for Pasco Schools

In Pasco County, the name King carries a heavy weight of history. But if you think you know the story because of the legendary blues guitar riffs associated with his grandfather, B.B. King, you’re only hearing the intro. Christopher King is composing a legacy of his own—one written in community service, military discipline, and a deep-seated commitment to the kids of District 1.

As the 2026 election cycle heats up, King has officially entered the race for the Pasco County School Board District 1 seat. But he isn’t running as a politician; he’s running as a parent who’s tired of the "theoretical" approach to education.

A Pedigree of Purpose

While his grandfather mastered the fretboard, Christopher mastered the art of the "hand-up." A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, King brings a level of grit and structured leadership to the table that is often missing from administrative boardrooms.

For years, he has been the engine behind The Gentlemen’s Course, Inc., a nonprofit that sounds like a throwback to a more polite era but functions as a modern lifeline for underserved youth. Through mentorship, etiquette training, and—crucially—human rights and human trafficking awareness, King has been doing the "school work" long before he decided to run for the Board.

“Christopher King isn’t new to this work,” says a local supporter. “He’s been showing up for years.”

The "Dad in the Stands" Perspective

What makes King’s candidacy feel different is his "why." Instead of looking for a political stepping stone; he’s looking at his own dinner table. As a father of two Pasco County student-athletes, he lives the reality of the district every day.

He sees the struggle of balancing a 4.0 GPA with a 40-yard dash. He sees the burnout in teachers' eyes and the pressure on students to be more than just a data point on a standardized test.

King’s vision for Pasco includes:

  • Strengthen connections between schools, families, and communities

  • Support teachers through improved morale and meaningful engagement

  • Expand mentorship, athletics, and real-world learning opportunities

  • Ensure student-athletes receive the academic and character support needed to succeed beyond sports

  • Address student challenges through a more holistic, community-based approach

“Our students are more than test scores,” King said. “They’re leaders, teammates, and future professionals. We have to support the whole child.”

Grassroots over Grandstanding

In an era of highly polished, institutional campaigns, King is taking it to the pavement. His strategy? Visibility. Whether it’s monthly community food distributions or knocking on doors to collect petition signatures, he’s operating on the belief that trust isn’t given, it’s earned.

“If people know you, they believe in you,” King says. “And if they believe in you, they’ll stand with you.”

Christopher King is a man of many titles: Veteran, CEO, Mentor, and Grandson. But the titles he seems to value most in this race are Father and Neighbor. As Pasco County looks toward the future of its schools, King is offering a rhythm that feels authentically community-driven. And from the looks of it, the community is ready to hear the music.
