A 37-year-old mother of three, Renee Nicole Good, who recently moved to the area, was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during a federal immigration enforcement operation in south Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. The incident has triggered national outrage, protests, and intense debate over ICE’s use of force.

How the Shooting Happened

According to federal officials, ICE agents were conducting a law enforcement operation, and the Department of Homeland Security had announced there would be more immigration enforcement activity in the area. Good’s Honda Pilot was stopped on Portland Avenue when ICE agents came into contact with her.

The agents, who were wearing masks, stopped their Nissan Titan pickup truck and approached Good’s vehicle. They ordered Good to get out of the car, and it appeared, from the video, that one of the officers put his hand on the door handle in an attempt to open the door.

As she attempted to drive away with her partner in the car, an ICE agent fired multiple shots, striking and killing her. Federal authorities allege Good used her vehicle to run over the agents. However, bystander and official footage circulating online shows Good in her car, interacting with agents moments before driving away, raising questions about whether she was an actual threat.

How Family and Friends Describe Renee Nicole Good

Good was identified by her family as a loving mother, wife, and community member. She was not the target of any arrest warrant and was described by loved ones as compassionate and gentle.

Family and friends painted her as someone deeply committed to her children and community — a U.S. citizen who had just dropped off one of her kids at school before the encounter with ICE.

Reactions from Officials and Community Leaders

The Minneapolis mayor and Minnesota leaders have condemned the actions of ICE agents, calling for a transparent investigation. Local officials dispute claims that Good acted with ill intent and have criticized the federal narrative of “an act of domestic terrorism.”
